Steel Bender Trail, Moab Utah with Hifonics

We spent an incredible day, about six hours, on the steel bender trail in Moab Utah. This trip was part of Rally on the Rocks 2019, a fantastic UTV & Side-by-Side event that happens every May sponsored by Discount Tire. This is a one hour raw footage video to show everyone what you will experience if you install Hifonics in your side-by-side, Jeep or 4 x 4 truck and get on the trails. For both a reflector and a refractor telescope, you should start with a higher focal length eyepiece which is the lower magnification. Lower magnification eyepieces will provide you with a wider field of view. This makes spotting objects easier. Once you have found your target and locked your telescope in place, use your lower focal length eye piece for a closer look. To focus your Reflector Telescope, slowly turn the focusing knob until you see a crisp clear image and then stop. If you reach the end of the knob without seeing a clear image, itâ€™s possible that you went too quick. Try slowly turning the knob to the other end, again. This means your target will look upside down. Your refractor telescope comes with an erecting diagonal or erecting prism. This will make your target right-side-up. To use a diagonal, simply place in the focuser, tighten the thumbscrew, and then place your eyepiece into the diagonal and tighten the thumbscrew. If your Telescope comes with a Barlow lens, this will increase your magnification. The eyepiece is placed into the Barlow lens. After rough handling, your telescope can sometimes become misaligned and youâ€™ll have to re-collimate it. To figure out if your telescope needs collimation, do the following check: Remove the eyepiece and turn the focusing knob until the draw tube is all the way in. Point the telescope at a plain background and look through the empty focuser. The image should look like a series of concentric circles. The outermost circle is a reflection of the primary mirror and all three clips. The inner circle is the diagonal mirror, which should be in the dead center of the primary mirror. It should show a reflection of your eye. Now that you have determined if your telescope is not properly collimated, you can easily fix the issue. If you have to adjust the Diagonal Mirror: Loosen the diagonal mirror so you can move the diagonal holder with your hand. Tilt the diagonal holder until the primary mirror is visible. Re-tighten the screws to lock it into place. If you need to make slight adjustments, you can turn the three diagonal mirror tilt screws. If you have to adjust the Primary Mirror: The primary mirror is located on the bottom end of the main tube. Loosen the primary mirror locking screws, which are flush against the surface of the telescope. The Primary Mirror Tilt screws are the screws located next to the locking screws, but not flush along the surface. Alternately loosen and tighten these tilt screws until the primary mirror is centered. Retighten the locking screws. Now you can test the accuracy of the collimation. Place the higher focal length eyepiece into your telescope. Focus on a moderately bright star. Center the star in the field of view and slowly turn the focus knob until the star is out of focus. If the telescope is properly collimated, you should see a series of concentric circles around a black dot. If the circles are not concentric and the black dot is not centered, similar to [figure], then you must adjust the primary mirror. Loosen the primary mirror locking screws. Use the mount adjustments to move the circles to the edge of the telescope filed of view. Turn the primary mirror tilt screws until the black dot moves to the center of the image with concentric circles radiating from it. Tighten down the locking screws. Collimation is crucial in making sure your telescope works properly. However, this should come as a warning that attempting to collimate your telescope without experience could cause more damage to your telescope than good. Your equatorial mount has three numbered circles. Two gauges are for the setting circles. One gauge is for the latitude dial. First, you must calibrate your setting circles. Spot a star that is relatively close to your target. You must know this chosen starâ€™s Right Ascension and Declination. Look through your telescope and center the star in your view. Now go to your setting circles and move them to read the accepted values. Now that your setting circles are calibrated, you can move to your target. Loosen the Right Ascension and Declination knobs. Move the telescope first in Right Ascension and then in Declination until the setting circles read the Right Ascension and Declination of your target. Retighten the Right Ascension and Declination knobs. Look through your finder scope and center your target. Light pollution makes it difficult to see faint objects at night. Try to find a dark area where the sky looks inky black and you can easily see the stars. 2. Avoid using white flashlights while youâ€™re out. Use a red flashlight in order to see your equipment and charts. 3. Avoid touching your telescope or eyepiece while you are observing your target. The vibration from your telescope can make you lose sight of your target. 4. Donâ€™t set your tripod on a deck or any ground that vibrates as you walk. 5. Donâ€™t look through an open OR closed window with your telescope. Looking through an open window can result in blurry images because of the difference in air temperatures. Looking through a closed window can result in a blurry image because window glass has varying density. 6. You will see sharper images if you look at objects high in the sky. 7. Sudden changes in temperature can cause condensation on your optics. In order to avoid that, you should set up your telescope ahead of time and allow it to adjust to the new temperatures before you look through it. Owning a telescope is a wonderful experience.
